Remarks by Ambassador Munir Akram, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN on the election of Pakistan as Chair of Group of 77 for the year 2022 (New York, November 30, 2021)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman,

I would like to express my personal gratitude to you, great appreciation for guiding this Ministerial meeting and for the way in which you and your colleagues have skillfully managed the work of the Group of 77 during the 2021. As conveyed by my Foreign Minister, we are honored to be elected as the Chairman of the group for 2022 and we will endeavor to work on the basis of transparency, inclusivity and objectivity in promoting the common interests and objectives of the group. The declaration which you have adopted today, and the views expressed by distinguished Ministers and representatives, will provide concrete guidance for the work of the group in the coming year. The challenges we face, the runaway pandemic, the achievement of the SDGs and advancing our climate goals are daunting. But with a traditional solidarity of the group, we are confident that the Group of 77 and China will succeed in achieving these objectives and overcoming challenges. I once again wish to thank Guinea for its great contribution during the current year and to thank all of those countries, ministers and representatives, who have congratulated Pakistan on its election.

I thank you very much, Mr. Minister.
